Unprecedented
a poe-umm
Unprecedented. Unparalleled. Extraordinary. A record breaker— a fuck-ton of not done— thus far, it never happened until now, ever occurred or hitherto, anything like it before. Nevertheless, why, why, why are you so, so, so…destructive? To what end? You came, you saw, you did it. Why are you such an arrogant, self-serving piece of work? It makes no sense. Your inflated ego knows no boundaries. You live in a bubble of your own making, and your minions fawn over you without fail. “Yes, sir, right away, sir.” “Anything else we can do for you, sir?” “Fall on our swords for you, sir?” Look at you. I see a pitiful old man who is caught in the web of his making, Alleged lies and misdeeds. Crying, foul because your version of the truth doesn’t jive with the evidence Of he said, she said, the paper trail, follow the money. Anyone can twist the truth and interpret the law in their own way to serve their purposes. There is a saying, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” And, it is also said, “He protests too much…” Methinks, you wouldn’t know what the truth looks like if it walked up to you and bit you on the nose! And then. you’d have the nerve to be pissed that it bit you. Here, I’ll give you a gold star for being so— ever so— unprecedented.
It took five tries to get this recording, and on the fourth try, I decided I needed to add one more line…which was fine; the fourth try wasn’t going well anyway. I’m croaky with allergies, and there was a cat hissy-fit in one recording, and then a very loud truck drove by my house…, so it’s done. Finally.
I wrote a very truncated version of Unprecedented in 2018 and included it as an addendum to The Book From My Acre of the World portfolio that featured the poe-umm I Am Vexed (also known as Vexation), and I have built on it since then, like this morning, I added a few things because of applicable current events. I don’t think I need to mention anyone’s name, as I have personally observed this sort of behavior on a far smaller scale—at school, in a friendship, or at the workplace—and in all occurrences, it’s troubling.
How can you—or—how can a court of law get to the truth of the matter when someone can say anything and be believed by the sympathetic ears listening? Even if some of the sympathetic ears know it’s bullshit, they sacrifice their integrity for one person’s version of the truth; some live in fear if they dare to contradict them. These people will defend themselves in every way possible and be so convincing, even when they contradict themselves. And like every trainwreck, it’s hard to look away. It’s painful to witness. From my acre of the world, standing in my size 6 ½ boots, what I’m witnessing is sad and it’s tragic.
There was a time—a very long time ago—when I seriously considered being a lawyer. In part inspired by Atticus Finch. Defending an innocent man from a crime he did not commit was very admirable, yet an innocent man was found guilty, even with the best defense. Then, I learned that defending someone who is clearly guilty of something and having to prove their innocence beyond a reasonable doubt bothered me. I knew I couldn’t do it. I was quickly disillusioned. In that age time frame of being young, impressionable, and fairly oblivious at times, I had been accused of doing something I didn’t do because of someone’s bias. I knew who did it but couldn’t prove it—and they wouldn’t believe me anyway because the guilty party was one of their own. I was the easy target—the weird girl. It’s awful when a friend turns against you when they know you didn’t do it. I learned really fast that it was hard to prove your innocence once people have made up their minds about you.
Is Justice truly blind?
